Credit rating repair can be avoided if we avoid debt.  Dr. Susan Forward calls it the debting compulsion.

Taking drugs, consuming excessive amounts of alcohol, and over-gambling are forms of compulsive behavior that the media have been harping about of late.  Dr. Forward says that the media have recently also noticed debting (the inability to resist getting into debt) as another type of compulsion.  But instead of calling them debtaholics, she prefers to call them money-reckless individuals.  This is one nagging reason why individuals have to go into overdrive in credit rating repair, because when it came to spending and using up credit cards to the hilt, they also went into overdrive.

So now we’re swimming in debt and missing out on payments.  Our debt has slapped us with a bad credit score.  What happens next?  In the logical chain of events, we need to get some credit rating repair going.  If we don’t, money becomes a rare commodity and we could be caught in a vicious cycle that will mean the end of a promising future.

Credit rating repair:  what it involves

Credit rating repair means that we created a financial mess which needs to be fixed immediately.  As soon as we’ve gotten over the shock of our credit rating diving into the deep-end, we need to roll up our sleeves and resolve to restrict our spending to only the bare essentials.  It means having to tighten our belts until we’re able to start paying off our debts again.

The next step in the credit rating repair exercise is to write the credit bureau and request a copy of our credit report.  This will show us whether any false information has been entered inadvertently.  While mistakes do happen, this is one mistake that you won’t want to let go.

The next and probably more important step in credit rating repair is to talk.  Talk to your creditors.  Talk to your bankers.  Talk to the credit card institutions.  Talk to all those people you owe money to.  Explain what happened.  Don’t stop there.  Tell them how you’re going to reimburse them.  Show proof of your sincerity and goodwill.  You’ll probably need to swallow your pride and do a lot of begging, but as you’ve just realized, money is not a joking matter.

You’ll be coming across a credit lead repair trick or two while you’re repairing your problem.  As long as you do everything legally and not be tempted to take short cuts, you should be fine.
